The 21st May saw Stretford Uke return for our 16th ukulele jam at The Sip Club, armed with an updated songlist and songbook, plus another slightly different layout. There was a fantastic turnout and a few new faces, which was really great to see!
There really were quite a few songlist changes actually, with Johnny B. Goode, River Deep Mountain High, Riptide and Hotel Yorba added this week. With the other recent additions to the songlist, it meant we were playing quite a few new songs that we’ve not practised a lot.
Well I must say, we made a pretty decent effort of the new songs. Some definitely need a few more goes, such as I’m Yours and Riptide. But Johnny B. Goode, River Deep Mountain High and Hotel Yorba sounded pretty good!
The second session saw us kick off with Islands in the Stream, then we tackled a number of old favourites like Big Yellow Taxi, Gold, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Psycho Killer and Space Oddity.
We also had a go at a few lesser-played songs, such as Jolene, La Bamba / Twist and Shout, Livin’ on a Prayer, Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard, Mr Tambourine Man, Spirit in the Sky, Total Eclipse of the Heart and You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere.
We even had a go at Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want. Though either not many knew the song or found it a bit too challenging!
Hope to see you again next week! As ever, if you have any feedback or requests for the songbook or songlist, then please do get in touch!
